Governor's Residence Holiday Open House

This past weekend 14 Women's Club members volunteered to help at the Governor's Residence Holiday Open House. The annual open house is held the first weekend of December and runs Friday and Saturday from 10 - 3 and Sunday from 12 - 4.

The residence is beautifully decorated by local businesses and garden shops/clubs. The weekend features daily visits from Santa and local talent of various musicians and vocal groups. The United States Marine Corps is also on hand to collect for the Toys for Tots program.

Connecticut candidates on the move

It's been a busy 10 days on the Connecticut campaign front.

Just before Thankgiving, US Senate Candidate Sam Caligiuri stepped down from his Senate campaign to run for US Congress in the 5th District.

On Wednesday 12/2, Lieutenant Governor Michael Fedele announced his candidacy for Governor of Connecticut.

And on Thursday 12/3, members of the Women's Club went to Hartford to hear former Ambassador to Ireland Tom Foley announce he was switching gears from his US Senate Campaign to run for Governor of Connecticut.

Campaign Season '09

Congratulations to the Republican Candidates for a fantastic campaign. Everyone worked hard to conduct fair campaigns and we congratulate the winners. I know the candidates appreciate all the help and support from the Women's Club members.

As a club we:

~ organized candidate visits at the retirement homes

~ helped individual campaigns by posting lawn signs, addressing mailings and making phone calls

~ attended parties for candidates

~ individually donated to candidates

~ hosted our annual meet and greet for candidates

~ worked at the GOP headquarters phone bank

~ worked on election day at polling places and as runners

~ donated to the GOP Town Committee for election day expenses

~ baked for the election day party at headquarters

The club sent a mailing to 5000 West Hartford Women voters to show support of the candidates and spread the word about our club.

At the end of a very busy week some members volunteered their Saturday morning to place flags on Veterans Graves in Fairview Cemetery.
